October 20, 2010. I thought its gonna be another boring day for me. I need to wake up early to defend or pass a project. It's annoying. But I was wrong. We weren't able to submit our project. That's a bummer. However, what's in store for me in a few hour's time was enough to turn the mood upside down. It was 12:00nn.
At 3:00pm, everything started. Leadership Trek 2010. Started off with a race of four groups - Java, C++, C# and SQL. Like every race, the groups planned different plans, walked different paths and took different roads. We, the Java group, planned to do all the buying in Tabunok, Cebu and ride a private vehicle all the way to Carcar, Cebu, our destination. Doing so, we were able to chill out while participating the race. And fortunately, we won! Now that's a very good way to start the Trek! Way to go JAVA!
Now, as a reward, we were able to swim in the pool ahead of the other groups! But it's not just the fact that we can swim the pool ahead that made me enjoy the race but also the fun we had as a team (cha~!).
One by one, the remaining groups came starting with C++, SQL then C# who came in last. The real thing began. Started off with a "working dinner" with a former president of the CIT-SSG. We learned a lot. I just can't seem to retrieve the words he said but I sure remember that we, as leaders, should be able to leave our legacy so as to prove that we are real and successful leaders.
After the dinner came the start of our transformation process. A group of volunteers from the Bible Baptist(correct me if I'm wrong) were also invited to share with us a piece of them. The talk was all about how we, as humans, are being manipulated by sin, how we should deal with them and what must be done to be saved from them. In the end, we realized that we are slowly being transformed to be better individuals and eventually, leaders.
After the talk, its party party! Everyone enjoyed the night the best they could, some swam the whole night through, others talked with others, met new friends, while some, like me, enjoyed the rest of the night in bed. Tired, I leaned my head on a pillow and darkness covered me. When I woke up, it was 5:00 am.

Intelligent system's flaw
Funny how the last day of prefinals turned out to be a rough ride for the students of CCSELEC1/314 F1.
Yesterday, September 16, 2010, Automata Theory started the clash with a blast of its CFG's and PDA's. "Chicken!", says the instructor (Ms. LTSF). Obviously, its not as "chicken" as she said it would be. The battle commenced and finally ended after an hour and a half. Others stood wearily and others cheered boisterously, as we compared and defended our answers. What a great way to start the prefinal exams!
Another six-hour break prolonged our agony. Without a second thought, we utilized the break for studying for the next test... SocSci. Time flew fast. In an hour, I finished the test and made it out of the room in one piece. I did fine. Don't know about the others though. All I knew then was that the end of Soc sci signals the end of prefinals day 1. Next! Day 2.
Day 2! The worst three hours of our lives. The Database, Java and IS tandem (you may include Assembly before and after them). Assembly started off the day with a "check if an inputted substring is present in an inputted string" problem. Hey, I was glad my neighbors new what to do or I would have been dead meat. After which came the three. Database came, miraculously, with simple questions while Java never came. Here comes Intelligent Systems. We were prepared for this. Got a lot of classmates to explain to others how this SOM works, what needs to be done, and what needs updating, what needs nothing. Sir Maravillas suddenly entered the room and prepared what needs to be prepared... our deathbeds. He drew a cartesian plane, wrote a few figures and sat down. all that's left for us to do is to solve for a single cycle which requires 12 X 9 computations which includes wierd symbols. If you were in our place, you think you can finish the test in an hour? Maybe you can... Me? An hour is enough for me to answer 12 X 4 of them.
Whatever! Prefinals is over and the scores I get wont even matter.

A spark in a shroud of darkness
Being able to talk to her 30 minutes before the examinations is one hell of an inspiration to take them flawlessly.
It was last week, Tuesday (August 3, 2010), when we had our first day of midterms. Everything was a mess! No studying the previous night, no notes, MADNESS! Good thing Art Appreciation was not that much of a hassle. We got out of class with ample time for me to go visit the same old school I graduated from three years ago. Not to visit the campus, nor the teachers but to see the "kid" I have always hoped to see. Thirty minutes before exams, she came in her school's uniform. What a sight that was. There we had a bit of chit chat about life and all. Five minutes til the next exam, I was about to go back to school. I asked her to go with me to the gates. She agreed. Then, all words escaped my mouth. I confessed to her consciously. She was laughing. I was nervous... Then, it was almost a failure til she told me to wait. Or so i think she did. Hey! I don't mind being rejected. I am happy I said what i said. If all these go wrong, I won't regret it. She's not ready and I respect that.
And so, I was late for test but did just fine(I guess).
Next day. Madness was turned to joy. I didn't care what's gonna happen next. All i knew was i was ecstatic. tests came like a storm surging through a country. they're just as hard as we thought they're gonna be. but her message telling me to perfect them was all i need to answer the tests like it was just a walk in the park. Cool!
It truly is amazing how a kid's message can turn things upside down!

What a day
Early morning. Laboratory meetings sure are fun. Especially if you're connected to the web. It's not illegal, I guess. Why? Because none of us were banned for the illegal(?) access, so far. Now, it's thanks to the internet that we had something to do instead of absent-mindedly scanning the who system trying to find ways to entertain ourselves. Others on the other hand were enjoying themselves with the infamous Spider - a built in game involving cards and stacking them in the correct order. It didn't seem that long when the teacher returned telling us to go. What a morning.
An hour later. The first quiz of the day. One hour of guessing and whispering seemed like a day. It did a lot of stress to my neck, ears and my throat. Well, at least I made it past the first gate of hell.
Next. Not much happened during this time. All everyone did is talk, listen to friends and take pictures of sleeping classmates while mr teacher does some magic on the computer.
Another hour later. The second quiz of the day. It's not too strict. That's the good part. The worst part was the fact that the quiz can never be finished in an hour. Even with the aid of calculators and calculator-like brains, that test was sure to make it to the second place next to impossible. What the hell. And that's still not the worst.
Last subject of the day. This signalled the last quiz of the day as well. Five items. Nice. 1 hour to finish. Nice. Open notes. Very nice. Questions... Hell. Five minutes before the time and I only finished two items and they're not the best answers too. Time was up and I got to answer three questions analytically and one question with random answers. Well, that's the best I got. And I don't really care though.
Nighttime. Cold breeze, less traffic, delicious food on hand... Everything seems to be in order. And that's good. Whatever happens next, I wouldn't give a damn.
~~Sleep tight everyone.~~
